About

Are you a small and medium enterprise (SME) looking to attract young local talents from universities, polytechnics and the Institute of Technical Education (ITE)? The SME Talent Programme (STP) offers up to 70% funding support to help you defray the cost of the monthly stipend when you engage students through internships.

To make your internships meaningful for students, your programme should have mentoring opportunities with supervisors, as well as structured learning objectives based on requirements set by the respective educational institution.

Benefits

You can engage a pool of young talent at an early stage. Interns may also be a part of your hiring strategy and can be offered job opportunities in your company when they graduate.

 

Funding

SMEs are eligible for up to 70% funding support to defray the cost of the internship stipend. Here is the minimum amount you should pay interns:

  • At least S$800 a month for ITE and polytechnic students
  • At least S$1,000 a month for university students

Tip: Engaging a SkillsFuture Mentor to support your supervisors will ensure a positive internship experience for students.

 

Eligibility

SMEs should meet the following criteria:

  • At least 30% local shareholding
  • Group annual turnover of up to S$100 million OR group employment size of up to 200 workers
  • Offer potential career opportunities with a clear job description and career progression path
  • Possess sound Human Resource processes
  • Willing to participate in Enterprise Singapore's Human Resource Maturity Diagnostics (HRMD) to facilitate future capability upgrading
 

Approach the following Approved-in-Principle (AIP) partners to apply for this programme. The STP AIP partners will assess and qualify SMEs, and will play an active role in matching suitable student interns to the participating SMEs.

Application Process

To apply for STP, companies would need to go through a 2-phase application process:

Phase 1: Application to be a Participating Company on STP

Step 1: Create an account on STPNet

  • Create an account using your CorpPass login
  • Ensure that you have authorised the relevant personnel to perform transactions on STPNet on CorpPass

Step 2: Complete STP company application and upload supporting documents

  • Complete the full STP company application form
    • Company details (i.e. Company Description, Group Employment Size, Holding Company and Subsidiaries Details)
    • Details of company’s HR processes
  • Select a suitable STP partner of your choice
  • Attach required documents

    *Please prepare the following mandatory documents before you proceed:
    • ACRA (within six months)
    • Latest Financial Statements (within 18 months)

Step 3: Receive an email confirmation on the outcome of your application

  • If your application is successful, you will receive an email informing you that your company is now approved under STP
  • You will now be eligible to apply for STP grant support for the approved period

Step 4: Obtain Internship Placement

  • Contact the relevant Institutes of Higher Learning (IHL) for an internship placement

Phase 2: Application for STP Grant

Step 1: Prepare all the necessary supporting documents (at least seven working days before internship commencement date)

*Please prepare the following mandatory documents for each intern before you proceed (documents are to be in PDF, DOC, XLS, XLSX formats for upload to STPNet):

  • A Copy of the Internship Placement Letter/Email (issued by the school) with the following details:
    • Company Name
    • Intern’s Name and NRIC
    • Internship duration (Including start and end date)
    • Internship monthly stipend aligned to STP (Internship) terms (Minimum $800 per month for ITE and polytechnic students and minimum $1,000 per month for university students)
  • Copy of the NRIC (front and back) of each intern
  • Intern’s year of study and current semester
  • Intern’s contact number and email address

Step 2: Log in to STPNet via your CorpPass account

Step 3: Complete student internship application and upload supporting documents

  • Ensure that all the required supporting documents and details are included in your application to avoid delays

Step 4: Acceptance of Letter of Offer (LOF)

  • If your internship placement is approved, you will receive a notification email with a Letter of Offer (LOF) attached
  • Log in to STPNet and accept the LOF if you are agreeable to the terms and conditions of the internship offer and print the confirmation receipt for your future reference.
  • Please inform your interns in advance that they would need to obtain their SingPass account details to login to the joinsme portal to complete an online student feedback by the end of the internship
  • You must ensure that each intern completes the online student feedback form by the end of the internship or you WILL NOT be able to submit your STP internship claim

Claims Process

Step 1: Prepare Supporting Claim Documents

*Note: You will not be able to submit your claims until (1) you have accepted the LOF and (2) all your interns have completed the online Student Feedback.

  • Please prepare the following mandatory documents for each intern for your internship claim (documents are to be in PDF, DOC, XLS, XLSX formats for upload to STPNet):
    • Payslips of all claimable months
    • Company bank statement of any claimable month
    • Student internship report (i.e. Internship report submitted to school or write-up from the student on key learning points and experience from internship)
    • GIRO form (signed) (pdf, 225KB )
      (Hardcopy to be mailed to 1 Fusionopolis Walk, #01-02 South Tower, Solaris Singapore 138628, Attn: Eve Poh, Finance Department if this is your first time making a claim or if you intend to change your bank account for the crediting of approved STP (Internship) claims)
    • Completed Company Feedback PDF e-form - softcopy

    • Ensure that your intern has completed the online Student Feedback

Step 2: Complete Online STP Claim

  • Log in to STPNet via CorpPass to complete your online STP claim

Step 3: Monitor Claim Status

  • Ensure that you provide the relevant additional supporting documents or clarifications if required

Step 4: Receive Claim Approval Confirmation

  • If your claim is successful, you will receive an email notification
 

What happens after I’ve submitted my claims?

  • An Enterprise Singapore officer will be evaluating your claim and you will be notified if we require clarification and/or provision of additional supporting documents.
 

What happens if I am unable to submit my claims on time?

  • All claims must be submitted within six months from the end of the qualifying period as stated in the Letter of Offer for it to be valid. If you are unable to submit your claims on time, you may request for a one-time extension via the STPNet online portal. Extension requests will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
